One For The Kids Yellowcard |
|
First song grooves… "Struck," or going by the chorus, dreams that may turn to dust. But the half empty view is not their prescribed course here-and there we may magnify the thin line that separates a good dose of old fashioned Power Pop from Alternative music… it's all in the viewpoint I would think. Yellowcard, a not so welcome gift dolled out to wrongdoers between the goal posts-if I'm reading my sports correctly, but what it has to do with anything here, I'm not sure. "One For The Kids" is an album of well-spoken and richly rhythmic odes geared for and written by a youthful populous, concentrated on the brighter side of things and the will to overcome-analogous to talking one's way out of trouble as opposed to raging fists-"Trembling," "Sureshot," "Cigarette…" all occupy a sensitive space laid forth in an otherwise unstable environment led by edgy guitar throttle and flighty vocals. Yellowcard comes away with a refined recklessness to their playing, sometimes bordering on Indie-flavored urgency, others a seasoned veteran ready to Rock the airwaves yet all at once, a pretty complete full-bodied work that's well intended though somewhat wrinkled, admirably independent, generally straight-laced and an obvious reflection of a good upbringing.
