As they age, they engage. and so on and so forth. This first song appearing on "Delusion of Grandeur (A Gathering of Heretics)" is an odd blend of techno-pop and black metal that sets a tone for God only knows what. Well actually Willow Wisp is a clear case of dissension within the confines of black metal. on the outside they look something like 17th century brigands with a fondness for character acting in the traditionally gothic period of history. On the inside, they're an accident waiting to happen. a twisted parody destined to leave egg on the made up face of the thousands of other black metal/doom legends who tend to lend a fatal degree of seriousness to their craft. An "A" for originality in presentation for sure here-and one can only speculate as to how outrageous their stage performance must be-as they certainly march to their own beat. but yet about 70% of the time they are legitimately a true underground artist. They're approach follows a lighter shade, blending a host of black/goth qualities. mad poets to an extent lending a paradoxical charm that's evident in a handful of song titles, prevailed upon sporadically where the music's concerned. Willow Wisp is unorthodox and off the deep end in many respects but with "Delusion of Grandeur" we find also an atmospherically entertaining side of a medium that's grown to take itself too far to extremes. Released by Full Moon Productions. Review by Vinnie Apicella.
