WHVN
Will Haven

Sometimes you just get to a point in your life where you say, "That's it I've had enough!"

And when you do that, the next thing you do is put out an album like Will Haven has done with "WHVN".

Taking a cue from and having played with many of today's name Angst-Rock heavyweights as in Earth Crisis, The Deftones and the like, Will, short for "William" Haven-if that sheds more light on the matter, has apparently quite a lot to get off their chest. We're on a pretty straight forward journey into oblivion here on the first three tunes, alternating bad temperament with terrifically biting subject matter placed beneath blurted vocals that even on your best day would be difficult to understand.

And for the last few minutes I'm still wrestling with what exactly the song "Jaworski" is supposed to imply. It's an angry song for sure, lashing out at someone, anyone and could it be inspired by the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Ron, or even anyone in his position that's taken so much physical abuse that they're like, "Go ahead do it some more, I'm numb to it you pathetic son of a bitch"! Okay, I can live without knowing, but Will Haven as a band certainly pulls no punches with their latest product and it might be advisable to close yourself off on your own for a while after listening as you might not be responsible for your actions afterward!

Released by Revelation Records.

For fucks sake, how many times do I have to listen to this thing?

Five times I've listened to this and five times I'm still not convinced that I like this. I want to like it, it has everything that I could want from a release like this, but it just bores the hell out of me. It's monotonous and it's repetitive, fine if you like that sort of thing, but not if you like a bit of variety.

Each track seems to be a rehash of the previous one. Vocally there's nothing special, nothing that you wouldn't find being done better elsewhere. Perhaps the only saving grace on this disc is the production, which is outstanding.

Musically, there's nothing wrong with what's being done, but as with the vocals there's nothing that sticks in the mind and, you've guessed it, you would probably find it being done much better elsewhere.

The songs are pretty much of a muchness and believe me when I say that I struggled to get through this disc, nothing unfortunately stands out for me. Although I must admit I did enjoy looking at the young lady on the cover.
