Awakening You know every so often I receive a CD thats so brilliant, so cool, so original that every metal fan should go out and buy right away, and in 'Reawakening Pride Once Lost' by Waylander it is such a beast. Waylander are from Ireland and combine traditional Irish folk music with traditional metal with a sound quite frankly comparable to no-one. 'Reawakening Pride once Lost' is full of Celtic mythology, of stories old and new of battles won and lost and the continuing struggle for freedom, infact not since Thin Lizzy have I heard a band capture that true Irish feel to the extent that Waylander deliver Reawakening. 'Sunrise' kicks the whole thing off, a true Irish folk ballad with pipes and drums included, the next four tracks are metal all the way, but even then you can still hear the Irish influence in full voice. The pace calms down for 'Gealic Dawn', 'A Hero's Lament' and 'King Of The Fairies', again they have a folk feel to them with the latter being my favourite track on the CD. 'Keen Of Knowledge', sees Waylander back on the metal trail and Awakening rounds things off nicely, full of that Irish flavour you could almost drink it. To sum up, Waylander play Irish folk music and traditional metal in the true sense of the word. A kind of Horslips meets Black Sabbath with vocals in a similar vein to Slayer and Machine Head. Quite simply, one of the most original albums I have heard in a while and you should all add Reawakening to your collection A.S.A.P. even if your the type that only buys after you've heard some of it.
