On November 27th, 2000, The Who crowned their six month North American and UK tour with a special evening at The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Bryan Adams, Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Kelly Jones (Stereophonics), Nigel Kennedy, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), and Paul Weller joined The Who on stage for a one in a lifetime performance for the benefit of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

First of all, let me start by telling you, this concert was brought together by Roger and Pete, who for the past 10 years have been helping awareness of The Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenagers with cancer often get a raw deal, receiving their hospital treatment in inappropriate facilities alongside young children or older people. Using funds from The Who & special Guests benefit and DVD sales, the Teenage Cancer Trust continues to develop a network of support and information services for teenagers, their families and other interested parties.

They need their own space in the company of their peers. If you would like more information about this trust then write to:

A bit about The Who...

The Who formed in Chiswick & Hammersmith, London in 1964 as The High Numbers. After one 45 (single) 'I'm The Face', they changed their name to The Who and signed to Brunswick. Had a top 10 hit with their debut 'I Can't Explain', which was followed by a string of chartbusters starting with classics 'Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere', 'My Generation', & 'Substitute'. In may 1969, they premiered their top 5 double album 'Tommy' (a concept rock opera) .

This was later made into a film (1975), which featured The Who, Elton John, Tina Turner, Ann-Magret, Jack Nicholson and Oliver Reed.

In 1973, they repeated the formula when 'Quadrophenia' hit the shops, and was also made into a film in 1979.

Well, it's a long time since I saw The Who live in concert, must have been around 1973/4 in Manchester, England and having watched this DVD, you wouldn't think that you were watching a band who were performing some of the same songs around 28 year's ago.

From the very first track 'I Can't Explain' ,The Who show they still are one of the greatest rock bands to come from the UK. This is a total high energy performance with Roger and Pete still at the forefront demanding your attention.

Roger Daltrey sings most of the songs with ease, although I do have to say there are a few occassions when he does struggle on a few of the high notes, but I can forgive him for that as I am sure you will, Pete's still doing his occassional windmill guitar style, as well as the jumps he was doing all them year's ago.

This is an absolute stunning performance from the band, and I can tell you the visual's are quite stunningl, the filming, editing, just everything is just first class, as well as the quality of the sound.

Just crank up the volume and you could be there with them.

You will see The Who perform classic songs such as 'Pinball Wizard', The Kids Are Alright', 'Magic Bus', 'Baba O Riley' which features Nigel Kennedy on Violin.

Pete performs on his own a couple of acoustic guitar tracks 'Drowned' and 'Heart To Hang Onto', before being joined by Paul Weller for the track 'So Sad About Us'.

Next up we have a series of songs that feature the special guests - Eddie Vedder, vocalist with Rock group Pearl Jam does the vocals for 'I'm One' and helps out with Roger on 'Lets See Action'.

Bryan Adams features on 'Behind Blue Eyes' and Kelly Jones, of the Stereophonics helps out with 'Substitute', Noel Gallagher helps out on guitar for 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and this track also features Nigel Kennedy.

I must also mention that on the track '5:15', in the middle John does an amazing bass solo, this is one not to be missed.

The final track 'See Me, Feel Me', one of my favourite tracks (one of many, which are performed on this DVD, I might add) sees Roger struggling to get to them high notes. To be honest, I thought he struggled with it originally, so it's even harder for him now. But what can one expect, as one gets older, you just can't get as high as you could all them years ago. About half way through Roger is joined by Eddie, Bryan Paul and Nigel who give him some support and you then see some of the teenagers come onto the stage.

The teenagers who this whole performance is all about.!!

There is also a 2nd disc which features some short clips of the rehearsals a nd backstage footage with the special guests, a multi angle version of 'Pinball Wizard' and an interview with Roger Daltrey. Personally, I think a lot more could have been done iwth the 2nd disc.

My only other small criticism is that, there is no book, booklet with the DVD, and I feel the DVD could have done with one. All you get is one sheet folded in half with a few photos taken by Bryen Adams during the concert.

Well, what can I say, this is a high energy perfomance by The Who, ageing rockers who still want to rock the world, wonderfully filmed, visually stunning, superb sound quality. The Who can certainly entertain and lets hope they do for many years to come.

A must for all The Who fans and for any rock fans out there.

Highly Recommended!!!
