"Sick in the Head" Virus 7 |
|
How's this for "Chamber Music?" "Gas" Chamber that is! The band, infectious in their caustic delivery, is known as Virus 7 and how's this for a title-"Sick in the Head?" Brilliant! When's the last time you've ever heard of a phrase like that reminds me of being a kid and the remarks the parents made about that "noise" we poorly interpreted as "music." And I'm sorry to report it keeps getting worse! The title track opens up-the patient, if you will-and explores not one possibility for cure, instead adding insult to injury with a purging urgency to breed heavy bass-fed guitar grunge and feedback at levels low enough to send shivers through your quickly decaying spine! To call it modern
rock with an edge might be somewhat redundant and there's little to do This Swedish sickness
lays forth a massive quantity of grindcore aggravation opting for no melody
whatsoever, so drop the comparisons to these late model Cathedral caravan
followers, and bask in the nastiness set forth in "The Execution,"
(it took 'em five songs to do it but they managed to get the old Sabbath
vibe kickin in) "True Pain," and "Fight the Fight,"
all angled toward self-determination maybe more than anything else related Old Fate followers will notice Hank Shermann contributing his chops, of which there are plenty though not as you'd expect, and the further we delve into this musical contaminant, things tend to drop off in intensity bringing Cantrell-like thoughts within the many midpoint breaks that take place. "Sick in the Head," starts off with a head of steam and then seems to suffer slightly from an oncoming dementia which causes parts of the second half of the disc to tail off, though regardless, it's not the most devastating disease to run its course on an increasingly stronger human immunity Released by Metal
