The latest impressive acquisition by Metal Blade finds veteran Death outfit Vader joining the ranks of their ever-growing legions of the defiled… It must also be pointed out that in spite of the new title "Litany," there is little to suggest a leaning toward the procurement of an organized religion to be heard here-there'll be no preaching, nor will there be even the slightest trace of quietude in any manner-the violent vibrato still trouncing the nerve fibers in my brain will attest to that quite nicely! The song itself, to try to break down its structure is way beyond any means I have at my disposal, but suffice it to say, they must have been having a really lousy day at the time it was written! Having quickly built a reputation as a rising force within this illustrious industry we've come to embrace as Death metal, Vader's latest recording for their new label really needed to have them at their absolute best-and with this cacophony of charred aggression that makes up "Litany," they've delivered on all counts! I first heard this band only recently with their "Live in Japan" disc from '98 and from then on I was hooked-tore the flesh right to the bone and I got the scars to prove it! Much like past and future tourmates Deicide, they come at ya from all angles and thankfully for those of the diehard, bordering on the lunatic fringe for all intents and purposes, Vader still hasn't mastered the veteran technique for subtle time changes! However, there is a mindful outgrowth of lyrical significance that belies the torrential flood of screaming hysterics that define their chosen genre! To know where to begin with "Litany" would suggest this one's got some type of outward pattern that's easily identifiable-it doesn't. It simply thrusts forward with one savage riff after another where Peter, on vocals, continues to test the limits of an already damaged larynx-"Wings," "Cold Dreams," "The Calling,"-take your pick, they're all on you in a hurry! Once noted for busting loose from the confines of a communistic homeland, Vader's self-propelled, decade-plus career's risen from great depths and seen them unleash their aural brutality on legions of black masses worldwide. Look for them to continue their dominance later this year as "Litany" launches them another step further toward "The Final Massacre!" Released by Metal Blade Records
