Fat Music Volume 5 - Live Fat, Die Young Various Artists |
|
What a prophetic title… tongue in cheek of course… unless you're the guy on the cover then it's basically whatever else you can fit in there in one big gulp! I was gonna make an obnoxious remark about the guy from Blues Traveler, but we'll avoid naming names for reasons of decency… or have I gone too far already? Here's the fifth in the series of Fat's latest roster of no talent loser bums playing bad music to peel your paint by… Sorry it's hard to be sincere when you're getting an earful of something like Zero Down, or No Use For a Name… I'm totally into the first tune though-that would be Zero Down and "Down This Road," and though I can't quite place it, it's very up tempo and catchy-seems like I should've heard them before but am bound to again anyway. Anti-Flag seems as though they're really getting their message across big time-it's almost like, when don't you hear of them on a Punk Rock comp? They're deserving though, good band and indeed, "Seattle Was a Riot!" They're pretty juiced up on this one-in fact I'm beginning to like the odd track or two they contribute to these comps outside of what was on their last album-it was good but I thought they could do better and this tune's further proof. A lot of these guys are relative newcomers to the scene or either haven't yet scored a name for themselves… then again that's not what it's about anyway right? But in Punk Rock circles where it's a close knit group, you know, well something like Good Riddance or Mad Caddies can just blow the doors off of whatever's taking place in the mainstream populous and just as easily be serving their fortieth year in the pits and you'd never know the difference… then of course there's Sick Of It All, fresh off their "Yours Truly" monstrosity released earlier in the year-or was it "later" in the last year, and if we're calling them a comeback, well who'll argue? They're here doing "I Believe," in the ballyhooed tradition of the veteran Hard-Core specialists. Rock on the rise updates for anyone who's not in the know, check out tunes from Consumed, Strung Out, Bracket (where've they been!), Frenzal Rhomb (cheer up guys you only die once!), and one of the more intellectually stimulating Prog/Core pragmatists Propagandhi.. are we completely out of "P's" yet? Here we are like seventeen tunes in and that Sick of It All tune's still ramming its way through my skull. In managing to exceed 1/10 of a million in sales during their previous runs, Fat's latest comp won't fall short of expectations… and that's even considering old what's his name soaring off the bridge on the cover illustration! Twenty total and varied tracks that actually take a little time to get through as opposed to one quick breath and you're back to the beginning and they're all previously unreleased with sectioned off bits from each group contained therein. Pick it up, put it on, and go take a flying leap… Released by Fat Wreck
