TOMMY SHAW |
| I have always
liked Tommy Shaw as the guitar player in STYX and DAMN
YANKEES but have never really found much interesting in his solo
material. With "7 DEADLY ZENS" that has all been reversed. I
am nowfirmly and immovably a Shaw-solo fan. With all of the rock history this man has been a part of you wouldn't expect him to just now be coming up with his "SGT. PEPPER". From the BEATLE-esque "Stop Knockin'" to the free form poetry of the last untitled track (read by STAR TREK's Marina Sirtis) this is an artier side of Shaw. This record covers so much ground it is almost schizophrenic but never once loses control of itself. Blues, hard rock, psychedelic and folk all leave their impressions on various tracks and it is a testament to the ample abilities of Shaw that it all comes together so cohesively. There is much to recommend this record, not the least of which is an absolutely blazing guitar number called "In This Night". This number is one of his best ever and should be incredible live. The enhanced CD portion will also fill your computer screen with several videos, pictures and other sundries. Other than another STYX record I can't think of a better stocking stuffer this holiday season. Released in the US on CMC International Records Website : http://www.cmcinternational.com |
