GUTTERFLOWER THE GOO GOO DOLLS |
|
Since their inception in Buffalo New York in 1985 the goo goo dolls released five albums before their breakthrough Dizzy Up The Girl in 1998 and well what a breakthrough it was, not only did it establish the Goo Goo's as one of America's biggest bands but it also included two number one singles including the Uk hit Iris, three further top ten singles and went onto sell in excess of over 5 million copies. Well four years is a long time in the world of music and the one thing you certainly can't accuse the Goo Goos of is cashing in on past glories (okay, so theres been a couple of compilations since then) but I best some of you are looking at this and thinking oh yeah I remember them, well whatever the reason for the long lay off one thing is for sure, Gutterflower really has to be good, very good in fact, if the Goo Goo's aren't to join the long list of bands who have fallen away from the public eye. Well with the song writing talents of John Rzeznik and Robbie Takac there was never really any danger of that happening and Gutterflower is simply a beautifully crafted piece of pop/rock with just the right mix of infectious melodies and straightforward hard driving rock that will appeal to such a wide audience that the Goo Goo's I'm sure will finally establish themselves not only in America but hopefully throughtout europe as well. Gutterflower is simply bursting with quality songs that show how with the right amount of care you can cross the boundaries between rock and pop with ease. The three obvious examples of this are the opening track Big Machine ,Think About Me and Tucked Away .The First being a no nonsence hard driving rock song while Think About me has a real melancholic feel and Tucked away has a real punk feel to it . GutterFlower is one album you simply must hear this summer. RECOMMENDED Released by warner bros. |
