Tyranny

The Generators

There are very few Punk bands I'm hearing now a days that boast this sort of "cool" vibe to 'em… sure they can play, they can rant and scream and throw up a harmonic break every so often and they can damage and destroy all that's in their path… but you know there's just something to be said for being "cool" and it's this aura-this way a group carries itself within the song, within the record and overall-these guys are it.

I heard it right on the first song "Down In The City," and right away there's this Stooges meets Social Distortion flavor rushing through it…

"Murder," which this time aims straight for the bar stool and there's the smooth flow of a cool Dropkick Murphys going down easy…

The tunes on "Tyranny" are your basic three chord mid-range 30 miles per gallon types, getting a lot with a little, keeping it simple without falling flat in a fascist feeding frenzy or first person rehab the universe assignment.

The Generators house some well-respected veterans of the Punk Rock wars in the form of former Schleprock and Choice members, like Dagger and Captain Oi and all things considered, smart move here.

You can glance back and name about a hundred other bands that these guys sound like and maybe because of that they're not as simple to pin down to two or three quick comparatives and then next…

"Hijacked's" got the more anthemic slant going for it, while "Summer of Unrest" has an almost Rockabilly push with a Ramones street-wise credibility and sped up "Mama's Boy/Wart Hog" plow through in the corners and in the chorus… for shame!

I can definitely see something happening with these guys-enough groove to sit well with the cutting edge crossovers, enough "Us Against Them" attitude to throw a friendly elbow in the direction of the street kids and a finger in the short-sighted eye of play it safe Rock radio programmers.
