THE BLOOD DIVINE |
| The Blood Divine are : Darren White on Vocals, Paul Ryan on Guitars, Steve Maloney on Bass Guitar, W.A. Sarginson on Drums and Percussion and Benjamin Ryan on Keyboards, Organ and Backing Vocals. The tracks are : Mystica As Rapture Fades Visions In Blue The Passion Reigns Leaving Me Helpless Visions Part II : Event Horizon I Believe Enhanced By Your Touch Sensual Ecstacy Fear Of A Lonely World Prayer Metal is indeed a strange beast. Strange in the sense that being a good metal band isn't good enough anymore. You have to be pigeonholed into one version or another, you know what I men. Hardcore/ Thrash/ Punk/ Death Metal. Surely we're all into these types of Metal for the same reason. Surely it's the sheer adrenalin rush you get when you hear your favourite track, maybe it's the knowledge that you'll never hear your favourite song on daytime radio because the DJ's don't have the understanding or the balls to play it!!!. What's the point of all this, you might well ask ?. Well, The Blood Divine are a death metal band, not in the same way as the Morbid Angel or Mercyful Fate, but more in the Paradise Lost way. Different band, Different styles, but all under the same play!!. Doesn't make sense, does it!!. Returning to the job in hand, MYSTICA is a full blooded affair relying heavily on keyboards and drums for the main stay (not unlike Paradise Lost). Mystica contains 11 tracks in total and although on the first listen it all sounds a bit familier, continued play will reveal much greater depth. It's the little touches to the songs that makes them stand up. It may in some cases be only the minor points that seperate each song like the classical guitar on 'As Rapture Fades', the superb guitar work on 'Visions In Blue' (this song has to be the most complex of the whole set with it's 70's style keyboard work and constant changes in rhythm ), the excellent bass lines and piano work on 'The Passion Reigns', the instrumental track 'Event Horizon' is one of the CD's many highlights, full of atmosphere, the type of track that on a dark winters night could scare you shitless, which leads into 'I Believe', jazz guitar intro, I kid you not. Furthur stand out tracks include 'Enhanced By Your Touch' and 'Sensual Ecstacy', the more you listen to this CD the more you you will understand about Mystica. The Whole thing rounds off with some prayers which contain the classic lines "The Nails are dug in hard like the walls around my head (nice). Do the sensible thing and add The Blood Divine's Mystica to your collection. Highly Recommended. Released by Peaceville Records.
