Almost Syrup
THE NEAPOLITAN ORCHESTRA

The Neapolitan Orchestra come from Eaton, Ohio. USA and are Tony Peters on Guitar and Vocals, Ben Burton on Percussion, Keyboards and Vocals and Chris Matthewson on Bass and Vocals.

The tracks are : 'Bwa Kwa Da Da (Subject To Change)', 'On A Different Plan', 'Everything's Here... But You', 'Trilogy Almost Syrup i) Embryonic Stages. ii) Reality Of A Dream. iii) Mental Discovery.', 'Looking Through Two Windows'.

The album opens with 'Bwa Kwa Da Da (subject to change)', which is an instrumental played with the guitar taking the main presence with the bass and drums in the background. One thing that is evident, this band work very well together and work hard for each other. Tony's guitar playing is superb, but plays with a 70's retro feel to it.

Next is 'On A Different Plan', another instrumental with Tony's guitar leading all the way. A track that is forever changing direction.

Track three is 'Everything's Here... But You', is a nice track, quite mellow with Tony's guitar giving the track a 70's feel to it. There are vocals on this track, but from the notes on the sleeve, all of them sing so I cannot tell you which one is actually singing.

We then go into 'Trilogy Almost Syrup' made up of 3 songs, the first being 'Embryonic Stage', quite a powerful track, reminiscent of very early Rush. There are some nice keyboards, an excellent guitar solo. Then there's a change in direction and the track speeds up, but only for a short time, before the it's back to power guitar chords and keyboards in the background.

'Reality Of A Dream', follows with some quite intricate guitar passages with lots of echo. Again the guitar playing is superb. Another excellent guitar solo. Ben then comes in with some great keyboard sounds. then back to some more guitar with one section being more avante-garde.

'Mental Discovery', closes the trilogy and twists and turns through finger picking style guitar, power chords, lead solo's with the drums and bass following closely behind. There are nice changes in direction, and tempo.

And the last track is 'Looking Through Two Windows', starts off quite mellow with atmospheric keyboards and intricate guitar, then gradually builds up changing tempo throughout. The direction is constantly changing from intricate guitar passages to power chords. A track full of emotion

Overall, a superb album. An album that is full of emotion. Some of the music reminded me a little of Pink Floyd, Rush to name a few.
But you wll find this is an album that needs to be listened to and may take a while before before you realise how good it is..

Almost Syrup is released directly by the band. To order, and for more information contact The Neapolitan Orchestra, P.O. Box 747, Eaton, Ohio 45320, USA.
