SKINLAB |
| Skinlab,
the ones who saw fit to first "bound, gag, and blindfold" us as we were
knocked senseless by last year's bone-jarring Century Media debut, now
see fit to take it a little easier with the release of only a five-song
EP entitled "Eyesore"-but don't breathe easy just yet. The EP,
which has been limited to only five thousand copies, is only meant to
bridge the gap in time before their next full length which is due for
a February '99 release. "Eyesore," naturally befitting of its' name, features two brand smashing new tracks, "So Far From The Truth" and "Noah" which both will be re-appearing on next year's album, as well as a cover of "Raza Odiada (Pito Wilson)"-that's Pito, not to be confused with Peta, from La Femme Nikita fame of course-and much prettier than Pito I'm sure. If that's not enough, "Eyesore" also contains an early demo version of their own classic "When Pain Comes to Surface" which was produced by veteran axeman James Murphy and finally leading up to a live version of "Paleface" that also originated from their "Bound, Gagged and Blindfolded" debut. Skinlab, in a very short time, has established for themselves, a solid reputation within the industry of hard music, and fans who've taken to a delight for pain will need to act quickly to get a hold of this highly collectible limited time offering while they still can! The Revolting Room Skinlab |
|
Hello to all our friends in internet land and welcome to the stormbringer guide to forming your own nu-metal band. Firstly get all your band members to say really nasty things about the opposition (even though they can piss all over you) secondly it would help if you all dressed the same (reds a good colour ) thirdly when playing live all dance around like you are having a fit and finally get a dj in your band and tell every one that hes vital to your sound even though nobody can hear anything he does. Or of course you could do what san fransiscos skinlab have done taken 3 years off stood back seen what the opposition have done and released an album that has that vital missing ingredient originality. The revolting room is a result of 3 years writing recording and touring and is without doubt there heaviest most mature and focused record todate, the songs are raw, abrasive and structually compelling filled with dynamic guitar riffs bludgening rythums and cathartic vocals. The Revolting Room literally explodes in to life with the opener "Come and Get It" with up beat tempos and a commanding chorus line. "Slave the Way" features some outstanding bass drum work while "Disturbing the Art of Expression" features some psychotic vocals and a highly explosive chorus but if i was to be totally honest all the songs on the revolting room remain true to skinlabs trademark of aggression and are all very solid. Its always a joy to listen to an album so down right heavy as it is accessible and for those who think the above is impossible had better get a copy and hear it for yourselves, highly reccommended. Media Records. Review by Andy Wagstaff
