Sinkadus from Gothenburg, Sweden was formed 10 years ago, and now they are releasing their debut-CD "Aurum Nostrum" (which is Latin for Our Gold).

From the beginning of their career they were playing Genesis covers, and you can hear that on this album. It's very reminiscent to Genesis ca. 1971, but with traces of Nordic folk music. They are also reminiscent to Änglagård, Museo Rosenbach and Cathedral. The line-up and the sound remind of Änglagård.

Just like Änglagårds debut CD, this album also got 4 tracks: "Snålblåst", "Manuel", "Ågren" and "Ättestupan". The shortest track is 11:06 and the longest 18:28. Although the tracks are very long the music is very varied and complex, and it keeps the interest the whole songs through. They've got layers or Mellotron and Hammond.

Add some fast-fingered bas and guitar playing, an excellent drummer, good vocals, and the beautiful tune from flute and cello. This is a album that is gonna be mentioned together with albums like Landberk's "Riktigt äkta", Änglagård's "Hybris", White Willow's "Ignis Fatuus" and Anekdoten's "Vemod", when we are summing The Scandinavian classics from The 90's.
A perfect masterpiece that I highly recommend!

Änglagård is carrying the traditions of the 70's into the 90's. They are one of the best bands to emerge in the 90's. Rest in peace Änglagård. Long live Sinkadus!

Cirkus
SINKADUS

Personnel
Rickard Biström - Bass, vocals
Linda Ågren - Flute, vocals
Fredrick Karlsson - Keyboards
Lena Pettersson - Cello
Robert Sjöback - Guitar
Mats Segerdahl - Drums

Track Listing:
1. Jag, Änglamarks Bane (13:45)
2. Positivhalaren (7:19)
3. Kakafonia (6:26)
4. Valkyria (10:03)
5. Ulv i fårakläder (9:55)

Sinkadus was the band that took over where Änglagård ended in 1994, and released the best debut album in 1996 in my opinion. Now they're back with their second album "Cirkus", the follow up to "Aurum Nostrum".

The music is a mix between Genesis, King Crimson, Yes and Änglagård. The vocals are singed in Swedish, and there's plenty of great instruments, such as flute, cello, organ and layers of beautiful Mellotron. The music is complex with many time-changes and instrumental passages. It also has a lot of contrast, and it varies from calm to very dramatic and intense.

The 16-page CD-booklet is very beautiful with illustrations to each song. I won't mention any highlights because every track is equally good. Sinkadus is one of the best bands from the '90's, and this may be the best album of the year. It's almost as good as their debut album "Aurum Nostrum" from 1996, and a future classic progressive album.
Highly recommended, especially for lovers of Änglagård and Mellotron!
