An excessive display of pure hard to the core aggression only seconds in… and "Yours Truly," their 'don't call it a comeback' of sorts blasts furiously through your speakers and straight into your disturbed mind… this one will damage your cranial structure before you're off spitting teeth trying to keep up with the words! Sure it doesn't make sense but it's rather difficult to think rationally with all this damage happening around me. Sick of it All's been a household name for more years than many of us might want to remember… or are capable of remembering, but they've never let anyone down before and don't expect one here-and is there ever a time when any of us aren't feeling a little "sick" of the world around us? First two tracks, "Blown Away," and "Nails" set the pace, one that's difficult to follow yet the message gets through loud and clear! Their sixth album overall and second for San Fran's Fat punk label, it features the NYC crew at their best… and to me, the true test of this is whether each song stands well enough on its own and not just one long rant and bitchfest that carries on for an hour but really goes nowhere at the time of completion. And I can honestly say that when I turn back to this at a later date, I will know what each song represents… "Hello Pricks" is a gut-churner and one that flies the finger in the face of anyone who's afraid to justify their own differences-the "prick in the roses" I believe is how they so eloquently put it! "Disco Sucks Fuck Everything" is graciously vindictive-can you imagine-and then or now, the message still bears repeating! "Broke Dick's" another one that stands out-so to speak-and I'm already in pain just thinking about it… not quite a minute's worth of sonic obliteration! Sick of it All's latest is an inspirational tribute to their worldwide following who've stuck by them through thick and thin-within the underground and briefly "scratching the surface," and what better way to express your gratitude then by dishing out a few knocks over our numb skulls in the process! Consistent as always, "Your Truly" raises the bar for the rest and dares the commercially conscious to put up or shut up! Released by Fat Records Review by Vinnie Apicella [va85@columbia.edu] |
