Talk about a rebirth, first the mighty Jaguar leaps back onto the scene with a freshly flavored new dose of the early NWOBHM exploits and now, well, five years ago actually, comes along, Savage, at the dire requests of still existing fans who just would not let the sleeping beast lie dormant any longer! Having first delivered "Loose and Lethal" upon the world, which back then consisted largely of the UK for them back in '83, their impact was such that none other than a young drummer from Metallica would admit to doing Savage cover songs to help get them noticed. well far beyond getting noticed, what might that say for this band then? It's not as though Metallica's influences hold little significance! Savage's new release, "Xtreme Machine" suggests for listeners to "Listen without prejudice" in the closing credits, in actuality, this is not an exact replication of something that could otherwise be dismissed as a shallow rehash of the past by those of the ignorant-minded variety. So it's true, they haven't been locked away in a box over the last ten or fifteen years as is plainly evident on this dynamic new release! Savage's sixth album overall, "Xtreme Machine" bleeds a densely structured format of songs that foray into a traditional metal grind-"Control Freak," "Smiling Assassin," "Choke," then capture a modern-flavored almost funk and groove style-"Extreme Machine," "Promised Land," "Drowning Man,"-all fed by a bottom heavy riff rumble and rough delivery that suggests this band is anything but dated! Having recently appeared last March on the East Coast's latest version of a Metal Meltdown, Savage was afforded the opportunity to showcase their rewritten history in front of thousands and will soon head off toward Wacken for their yearly festival. It's the year 2000 and time to let the primates run wild once again! Released by Neat Metal Review By Vinnie Apicella |
