'A Street Between Sunrise And Sunset' is the debut album from Satellite, a progressive rock band created by the former leader of Collage. The album is about understanding and seeing our world in two completely different ways. Some people can feel and see more than others. Maybe all of us could find that more sensitive side but, unfortunately for different reasons, we do not have enough time or we don't want to see anything else than our maybe a little gray everyday life. This is what the album is about. And finally, on a higher level, it is about making a choice, any choice. Because making a choice is like choosing one side of the street or the other one. And once the choice is made, you are walking down the street on one side, but you can always see, watch, observe the other.

The opening track 'The Evening Wind', is a 12 minute epic, starts off with the sound of rain, and a sampled weather report, and a siren, before the orchestral keyboards come in, the vocals sound a bit limited, but fit in perfectly well with the music on offer, wonderful multi-layered keyboards, there's a slight oriental influence here and there. There are many changes in direction throughout the track to keep the listener's attention. This is an excellent track, with a strong melody, and sets high expectations for the rest of the album.

The musicianship is excellent, and there's some fine guitar work. If the rest of the album is as good as this one, I think we are on to a winner here.

'On The Run', another long track running in at just under 15 minutes, this track starts off fairly quietly with acoustic guitar, the vocals are fairly soft and there's a piano and keyboards but these are being played quietly, but it's not very long before the temperature rises though when the keyboards sounds come in a lot stronger, then we have some wonderful interplay between the keys and guitar, and then as the track builds the guitar takes over, some wonderful soaring guitar, back come the vocals, acoustic guitar, and this repeats itself a few times throughout the track, once again this track has a wonderful melody. There's some more superb guitar towards the end of the track.

'Midnight Snow', this is a nice track with some lovely acoustic guitar, I think most people will remember this track because of the chorus, and again some wonderful guitar, this track then flows into...

'No Disgrace', uptempo track with some lovely keys and guitar...

'Not Afraid', the instruments at the begiining of this track are quite subdued, but you can still hear them, the vocals are halfway between spoken and sung, as the track progresses the instruments come more into the foreground especially the guitar...

'Now', is another fairly long track at just over 10 minutes, starts with some atmospheric/orchestral keyboards, and then the guitar, before the vocals come in, this is another track that has a slight oriental influence within the keyboard sounds. Once again we have a strong sense of melody, and thoughout there are many changes in direction, i particularly like the chorus

'Now, now let the feelin' go
Let the music play out loud
Let the wind blow'

which is repeated several times and is a strong part of the melody.

'Fight', the keyboards at the beginning of this track reminded me a little of King Crimson, and there are glimpses, and i do mean glimpses throught this track, a nice track with some lovely acoustic guitar, towards the end another wonderful guitar solo.

'A Street Between Sunrise And Sunset', the title track, starts off fairly quietly, and gradually builds up with some wonderful keyboards and guitars and climaxes with some great interplay between the two.

'Children', the final track, a beautiful track with almost lullaby soft vocals, piano and guitar, the guitar is quietly played in the background.

This is Satellite’s debut album and it is very clear that these are accomplished musicians, and the production quality is excellent. This is neo-prog at it's best, there are many influences, i can hear within Satellite's music, Camel, for me would be the main one, but Satellite still retain thier own sound. I think this is one album i will be playing over and over for the next few months, if not the rest of the year.

The sleeve was designed by Mark Wilkinson, whose resume includes artwork for Marillion, Fish, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Asia, and many others.

Satellite's 'A Street Between Sunrise And Sunset', is an outstanding album, and I personally think this will be one of the best releases of the year. Highly Recommended!
