Controversy and Rock N Roll have been going hand in hand so it seems since time began. You only have to look inside any decent Rock Journal and you'll find that W.A.S.P have been drinking Virgins blood long before Dani & Co, bought their first set of plastic vampires teeth or that Alice Cooper (still the master of horror) has been using make-up long before Marilyn Manson discovered that Max Factor was indeed a cosmetic's company and not a L.A drag act.

Rockbitch on the other hand have moved away from the shock horror image of the above named bands and have gone for a far more natural way in which to draw attention to themselves and their music put simply with Julie on Vocals, The Bitch on Bass, Babe on Vocals, Guitar, Analogue Station, Nikki on Keyboards, Beast on Guitars, Epone on Drums and Luci as Stage Slut, Mistress Of Ceremonies (I have no idea what that means but my dream is taken care of, for tonight) like to perform (if that's the right word) naked.

Now in my mind regardless of whether you admire them for making a stand and doing it their way or not, it's not the image or stage show that's important, it's the music that counts and it's very clear that upon listening to 'Motor Driven Bimbo' that Rockbitch are indeed a highly talented group of musicians, who deliver their own style of sub-Skunk Anansie rock/metal mixed with some amazing grooves, rap passages, raw guitars and a multitude of melodies that make this a debut album and a half.

The driving opener 'SNAFU' is an excellent rock song. An unmistakable definition of the groups position 'Eveline' unfolds as a multinational tangle of languages with sacredorgan sounds and a stunning vocal performance from Julie (I think it's fair to say that Julie's vocals throughout are simply outstanding).

'Sex & The Devil', is a powerful no nonsense metal/rock crossover number. Exceptional also is the melancholy 'Lucifer' with its superb piano intro that gives the song a really mysterious feel. The effects on tracks such as 'Baby' and 'Sex & The Devil' turn ordinary rock songs into moments of high drama. To be honest all 13 tracks Have something good going for them, but the highlight of the set in my humble opinion has to be 'Eveline', a mean moody number that showcases Julie's vocals to the highest degree, and this with some first class performances from the other members of the band show that all the hype surrounding Rockbitch is well justified.

Which brings me back nicely to where I started. Scan across the Internet and through the pages of the rock press and you'll find that already Rockbitch are attracting a fair amount of attention. Some good, some bad, but what's more worrying is the fact that some people are quite prepared to rubbish Rockbitch, just because of their image.

My advice to you is to ignore all you have read and buy 'Motor Driven Bimbo', turn up the volume and let the music do the talking; otherwise you'll miss out on a very impressive album.
