Crappy Clubs And Smelly Pubs Reducers SF |
|
On their second full length, San Fran's Reducers SF tell it like it is, straight from the shoulder, or the holster as the case may be… their fresh, loud, and come at ya with a blue-collar work ethic and lyrical sincerity that belies the happy-faced preppy-Punk beach boys with sporty cars and shiny shades. Pure and simple, anthemic Pub-style Rock with a purpose, Reducers come across as a tight-fisted combination of old school honesty, gang-tackle verses and thick rhythms for that extra ounce of crunch-think Dropkicks', Osker and Cock Sparrer-and Steve Burgess' production work is stellar. Personally drawn and purposeful without overdrawing on the colorful criticism that's planted boot to ass for many a street-wise upstarts new career, "Crappy Clubs And Smelly Pubs," are a means for survival for the struggling Punk band-how can you ever forget your roots when you're destined to never get away from them… yet Reducers SF's had a taste of life on the road having played with the likes of The Dropkicks', One Man Army and Cock Sparrer and going by their latest material, they won't be pressed for playing time. "Pop Star," "No Control," "Not Fooled," and… "Another Day Older," for slight contrast, serve up the truth on a silver platter and while it's not necessarily the evening news neatly packaged in a harrowing guitar riff and minute long rant, many will find it a difficult pill to swallow… this thing known as morality. Forging the finer elements of melody, groove, and choral endurance (and welcome to the Reducers SF choir), their point is clear, their words ring true and give the record a few more months to sink in as the band takes their broadening pub crawl on the road and watch 'em quickly reduce the competition to a pile of rubble.
