Redefine the Rock Star Vol. 3Various Artists |
|
Well guys, if the first tune don't get ya excited, nothing will… though I'll admit its hard to envision a shapely young female doing the nasty with all this overhead rumble and thunder going on… and that comes compliments of No Redeeming Social Value and their "Hard Candy Cock…" and how many different variations are we talking about here anyway? Listen and find out-they sold me… great way to begin an absolute overcrowding of mass destruction unearthed from the underground in this brand new version three of the "Redefine the Rock Star" series. Now when I say "underground" we're going deep into the catacombs here-so how do you actually "redefine" a rock star if what they're displaying is as anti-commercial hit radio plug and play as you're gonna get this side of Motorhead? More low ended drones nudge their way into the picture in Serial Poets doing "Nomad," and a nice echo-driven break in between that lets you gather your breath ever so briefly before enduring another blow to your gut! What I'm finding here as we go down the list is that not a single of these bands caters to the "what's popular these days" movement and if anything, take a cue from a lot of the up and coming stoner rock and drone miscreants with a few hard and heavy feedback consuming street settlers and their modern day garage punk flamboyance… "Set it Free" brought to you by F.O.C.U.S. , "You Don't Understand" by the Turnstyels, which incidentally tears a slice right out of The Misfits current rewritten history-not bad at all! Turn around for a moment and there's a near perfect recreation of classic Kiss riffs and this paunchy rap style by The Doomsday Machine and their finger pointing inquiry to cruel and unacceptable mistreatment of the downtrodden and weak… are they being serious here? It's hard to tell with all this "Why you treat the brother man like a resident alien" stuff going on. Expect no glitz or glamour in this redefinition that some twenty bands have decided to participate in and among them, there's something for everyone from all walks of rock and roll residuals… Face it, with all this "everything old is new again" stuff hitting the surface at breakneck speed, music like this is emerging as the people's choice to replace the latest come and gone trend-falling somewhere between the extreme and what alternative seemed to indicate in its baby stages, there's little doubt the talent's out there if you look hard enough. Every group featured not only possesses that penchant for off-beat and damn near senseless lunacy that was once so graciously inviting about the true rock experience-White Rabbit Cult… Bomb Jack… Jerky Medicine… Get the idea? And the song titles… right outta some sort of modern day Willy Wonka freak factory where the point is, there isn't one-just eat it and smile.
