This is Raventhrone's second album, following on from their 1997 debut 'Malice In Wonderland'. Imagine the synth drum of 'Soft Cell' or 'Erasure' (remember them?) add that style of vocal and what have you got - 'Mark Almond does Death Metal!' just listen to 'Eaters Of The Dead' and see what I mean. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, in fact quite the opposite - it works very well.

There is an absolute crispness about the production and it's very well done. Everything is crystal clear which gives it an immense sense of power, shame about some of the songs on offer. Sounding like 'Thin Lizzy' on occasion with tints of Gary Moore's 'Over The Hills and Far Away' this is the sound of a band which doesn't seem to know which direction to turn next. The song writing seems ok but has a tendency to slide toward the ridiculous. I wonder if they have ever thought of covering 'Bad News' Warriors of Genghis Khan?

The musicianship is quite outstanding. There is quite some emphasis on the rhythmic melodies and the standard type of vocal you'd expect on a folk metal album. That's not to say that it's not aggressive in any way shape or form because it is….oh hold on a minute, just check out the beginning of the title track 'Endless Conflict Theorem'. Tell me that ain't the intro to ManoWar's "Defender"!!

There are a number of different styles on offer ranging from the children's TV music style to an Indian feel then almost touching early Pink Floyd?!

It's all very well and good but it is just laughable in places and if this meant to be serious then I'm sorry.

Personally I think they need to stick to what they are best at - straightforward folk metal. Try the first and last tracks 'The Gargoyle' and 'Serenade Of The Dead' and see what I mean. When they do actually get a good riff going, they unfortunately have a knack for killing it dead, which is a damn shame as there is potential there.
