- Yeah Tommy Denander's Radioactive project (featuring a line-up as long as your arm) featuring members of Toto, Blue Murder and Talisman amongst others is good example of hard-edged AOR. While it may not break any new ground it has enough muscle to be engaging and Denander's guitar work is both melodic and powerful. His style is peppered all over the 12 tracks that make up Yeah, sometimes upfront sometimes cunningly arranged within the mix. Denander's use of keyboards adds to the lush arrangements and pomp of tracks like " I Should Have Known Better". "Don't Give Up" features Geir Rönning's vocals, deep throated and bluesy sounding more than a shade like David Coverdale, and one of my favoured cuts containing a nice electronic percussion break just before a fluid guitar solo from Denander. "Over You" trades a sequenced synth with Denander's guitar picking intro before slipping into the anthemic chorus, once again featuring an impeccable vocal showcase. I found that some of the albums length began to wane on me here and there, but that said it is still a very satisfying album that ably shows Tommy Denander as both a producer, songwriter and musician to great effect. He has a melodic and restrained guitar style that shows an ear for melody and phrasing can go further than flash and speed. So while this album breaks no new ground, don't hold that against it. There is plenty of deft musicianship and songs to satisfy. If this brand of West Coast AOR is your bag then GO get it. Personally I am finding it improves with each play which can't be a bad thing.
