Spirit of a SoldierPlan 'A' Project |

How comforting… here I sit listening to "You Lose," which is song two on this new Plan 'A' Project disc, fresh off another Kings loss to the Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs! Already pissed off and angry I'm thinking something like "Spirit of a Soldier" is just what I need to let off a little steam… maybe a lot of it now. The tune's got it down though-"Run the race, You lose, roll the dice, You lose-get the picture? Clear enough. Another Jersey-based band of punk shooters that sound like their fresh off the streets of Brixton or somewhere… nothing on the pop and fluff side just yet-just what I'm lookin' for out of this! "Fourteen Hours" and "Fighting Words" are a spewing sample of us against them-in some form or another. We got some serious hyper-tension building up here-"On the Attack," "Righteous," and "Plan A,"-and man, how do you fit this many words into two minutes worth of music? That all changes when we arrive at "White Riot," which being a Clash cover of course doesn't list them-nice true to original version of the '76 classic with a clever fade out! Ah yes, the lessons of life are sometimes hard learned as we all at one time or another have spent time in the unenviable position of the "Fucked up Kid," while burying our "Pipe Dreams" away… this new one bleeds revolt while pushing the self determination right to the precipice of fate. I can't help but wonder if they're slightly inebriated during the recording here-we're talking on the extreme side of sloppy! But what self-respecting listener worth their weight in shackles and spikes would have it any other way. Half an hour and one "Revolution" later I'll admit I've forgotten what I was bitter about at the start of this writing-so hey, we've got something here. Listen to Plan "A" and get so consumed so as to acquire the "Spirit of a Soldier," you'll realize there are a few more things less petty to waste your anger on… Released by Go Kart Records Review By Vinnie Apicella |
