"No Signal" Park |
|
I love the initial talk up for these guys in their bio "They've been around the local scene and people are happy with them." I mean that about says it all doesn't it? So what do the people from Springfield, Illinois know that maybe the rest of the world doesn't? Well for starters, Park is a good-natured fellow of a band; they play easily identifiable lofty Rock music, catchy, uplifting, even inspiring without getting stuck in the sap built up by excessive romantic twists. "The Ghost You Are"
is the first track and says enough about where they're coming from here
and even though the rest generally follow the lead, this one follows a
mid-paced minor key path lent to abundant distortion, crashing drums and
absorbable melodies-consider a group like The Outfield who came out sometime
in the eighties, immediate striking a chord with their Pop anthems and
playful sing-alongs and merge it with Well not quite, but we'll say nothing of their clean cropped Sunday school looks. The tunes are heavy on the power-pick chord changes and pretty predictably drawn, way away from the modern day complexities we've come face to face with by these usually awesome but incomprehensible marvels of multiplicity. And make no mistake, this band might be a bridge here or time change there to run in step with the aforementioned math whiz types but such as it is they play it safe and the music is quite enjoyable a genuine walk in the park shall we say? Been good enough to satisfy the good folks of Springfield so it should be good enough for us. Released by Lobster Records Review by Vinnie Apicella [va85@columbia.edu]
