Compost

Parasites

What's this… an entire band history written into what appears to be a lengthy compilation for their latest label?

Whatever the case, judging by the material-and there's a lot of it-the "Parasites" have a lot to say with this cute little picture postcard of punk and pop memorabilia!

I like how one song precedes the other with barely a second left for space… "Loyola" starts out like "Dancing with Myself…" you know the old Billy Idol tune-but relax, that's where the comparison ends. Mr. Dave Parasite is the mainstay on vocals here while we got about ten other names that have contributed to the character development of this compost.

Soundwise we're pretty consistent as we skim through the last five or six years here-edginess still in tact, melodic chorus, tightly wound for the most part-"Tears on my Pillow?"

Well all I can say is playin' it a hundred miles per hour is the only way to pull it off, cuz the original, for anybody who remembers it, flat out sucks!

"No Martyr" is definitely one of the greatest tunes I've ever heard… sounds a little older and the "whoa, oh, whoa's" are absolutely vintage!

Skim through the pages and come across some truly "tasty…" that's great, packaged "Salty Crawlin' Grubs!"

Where melody's concerned, we're talkin' the lighter shade of punk-"What a Day," "Dennis's Excellent Haircut…" which the best I can make out is some jerking around with a xylophone with outdoor chirping effects-okay, and "Something to Hold Onto."

There's actually more Ramones going on here than I first realized, but not where Parasite's singing is concerned, but in many instances he does sing.

On the odd occasion these guys might be considered for commercial radio with a little luck-"She's from Salinas," "Loyola," "Stay a While," otherwise it's 80% bloodsucking aggression that's not quite tame enough for mainstream consumption.

Any Descendants' fans out there-check out the scathing version of "Pep Talk," and then… "I Don't Wanna Go Out with You" jars right to the bone compliments of Parasite themselves!

We could go on and on here-there are 18 tunes altogether!

Actually the next song made me wanna punch the screen here-I mean, what the…!

Delightfully disgusting, tight, catchy, and maybe a little humble? The Parasites, in one form or another, their music, if not their scholastic ability, will suck you in…
