Opposite Earth are
an aggressive, yet melodoc heavy metal act hailing from the Tampa
Bay area of Florida, that has successfully integrated mystic Middle
Eastern melodies with powerful guitars and masterful keyboards with
intellectualy orientated lyrics, resultsing in the creation of powerful,
textured and structually complex songs.
Opposite Earth are : Joe Lopez on Drums, Mike Stanfield
on Bass, Gary Schemnitzer on Guitars, Steven Vincent on
vocals and Rick Risberg on Keyboards.
The Tracks are 'Alway's Now', 'Primal', 'Noctural defense', 'Blame',
'Headspace', 'Falling Down', 'Statement', 'Visuals', 'Dog Dreams'
and Cycles'.
Headspace is one of the most original and inventive albums
I have heard in a long time. The idea's are fresh and the sounds are
huge.
Headspace kicks off with 'Always Now', which is a typical
hardcore tune, there's a great drum sound and the vocals remind me
a bit of a cross between Ozzy and Maynard James Keenan (Tool).
But then we are introduced to 'Primal'. The only problem with
this great track is that it's been put right at the start. It's one
of those track's that's so addictive you just want to keep playing
it again and again before listening to the rest of the CD.
Venture further, and find the excellent 'Headspace', with it's
soulful chorus and profound lyrics. In my opinion the best track on
the album.
'Falling Down', is the
next track, and proves that Opposite Earth have a vulnerable side
hiding beneath their aggressive crust. 'Statement ', is just
that and 'Visuals', manages to conjure up a thousand different
images.
It all ends with 'Cycles', a track that leaves me breathless
everytime I hear it. The mood changes direction like a leaf in the
wind, a track in which you discover something new each time you listen
to it.
Fans of Rock, Progressive Rock/Metal and lovers of good music, here
is an album you have to listen to.
