In 1995, Norwegian band Old Mans Child released 'Born Of The Flickering', an album that became something of a black metal classic. In 1997, Old Mans Child released 'The Pagan Prosperity' an album combining classic metal riffs with wonderful keyboards which created yet another classic black metal album, full of intelligent lyrics and excellent musicianship.

Well, that was then, but this is now, with support slots with The Cradle Of Filth could Old Mans Child continue were they left off or even improve on their two previous releases.

Well, the answer is a big emphatic YES!!!

Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion continues to see Old Mans Child Improving with every release. There are thunderous rhythms, wonderful keyboards with excellent guitar riffs with lyrics straight from hell which go to make up a very dark, but accesible album.

'Towards Eternity' kicks the whole thing off with a wonderful classical intro which in turn gives a real gothic feel.

'The Dream Ghost' (probably my favourite track on the album) continues in the same vein with excellent keyboards couples with wonderfully tight guitar riffs and a first rate rhythm contain all the elements that make up a classic black metal song.

''Captives Of Humanity' and 'God Of Impiety' contain some wonderful duel guitar work while the keyboards on 'Fall Of Man' is quite simply outstanding breaking the song into sections without ever losing it's purpose.

'The Servant' ends proceedings in true black metal fashion with gothic style keyboards, manic guitars, fast and furious rhythms.

Old Mans Child are at last attracting interest from the main stream muisc press they undoubtedly deserve.
An outstanding release from an outstanding band.

The Pagan Prosperity
OLD MAN'S CHILD

Old Man's Child are a Black Metal band from Norway. 'The Pagan Prosperity' crosses the boundaries of Black Metal to invoke swatches of everything from traditional Metal to Gothic. Their music, often hostile and feral has been boosted by the bands ever-increasing songwriting skills.

The tracks are 'The Millenium King' 'Behind The Mask', 'Soul Possessed', ' My Demonic Figures', 'Doommaker', 'My Kingdom Will Come', 'Return Of The Night Creatures' and'What Malice Embrace'.

'The Millenium King' starts with an almighty scream before getting into its rhythym. This is an excellent track with Deep Vocals, great guitar, and some nice changes in direction.

Next is 'Behind The Mask' a good track with nice changes in tempo. Deep echoing vocals and most of the track is played at lightning speed.

Track 3 is 'Soul Possessed' a good fast heavy track.

'My Demonic Figures' is an excellent track with some superb guitar and nice use of keyboards.

'Doommaker' good track with nice changes in tempo and some good keyboards.

Track 6 'My Kingdom Will Come' is a great track with nice keyboards and great guitar.

'Return Of The Night Creatures' an excellent track with some superb guitar, nice keyboards, great vocals with good changes in mood and tempo.

And finally 'What Malice Embrace' another great track with some great guitar and good use of keyboards.

The Pagan Prosperity is a superb album and shows a lot of originality. Each song is well crafted with a lot of mood swings and changes of tempo within each of the songs. There are some nice keyboards which are not over dominant, which I feel wouldn't be right for this type of music. There is also some great guitar on all of the tracks.

Just listen to 'The Millenium King ' and 'My Demonic Figures' you can see that this is a very talented band and this CD is definitely worth a listen.

My only criticism is that the CD is a bit short on length at 37 minutes.
