JAMES CALABRESE -
VOCALS Tracklisting: 1. THE BOUNDARIES OF EVERMORE Make no mistake Obscure can definitely play their instruments, but unfortunately suffer from some of the weakest vocals I've heard in a while. The guy is just trying too damn hard, and his style does no justice to the music whatsoever. This is a shame as I think this could have been a hell of a lot better, it certainly has potential, no offence intended lads. Find yourselves a vocalist that can complement the music you're playing and I think you'll find yourselves in business. Stick with James and I think they'll forever be on the d-list (very minor pub band). We have 4 tracks on offer here, 'The Boundaries Of Evermore', 'Morphed Silence', 'Not At All' and 'Dorian Gray'. The first weighing in at just over 8 minutes is a mid-paced sort of track, with a good chugging sound but as said earlier on the weak vocals just kill it. 'Morphed Silence' picks up the pace slightly and is probably for me the best track on offer here. 'Not At All' takes a step back and slows the pace down once again. The final and longest track, all 10 mins of it, 'Dorian Gray' begins quite well but half way through you get that, reaching for the eject button feeling. Shame, as given the effort of the musicians they have to suffer because of the weak vocals. http://www.ivorygate.com/obscure/ |
