Go Away

Niblick Henbane

Well if you're not going to listen, just go away!

The new record from New Jersey's Niblick Henbane and the meaning is clear-"Go Away." Message intended?

Of course, now there ain't a Punk band worth their weight in… "Oi" that didn't have a caustic directive aimed at someone or something at one time or another.

That's the joy of it…

NH first got their name out there-and with a name like that how hard could it be-back in the late '80s when who knows what was going on in the Punk Rock scene…

I think bands like Circle Jerks and other famously uproarious upstarts from the earlier skate/Punk movement were putting in their last vain attempts to reach commercial respectability and got promptly hung out to dry and forgotten… then again, what the Hell was going on that was good in music?

Plodding locally and honing their skills which taken for what its worth is the sincerest form of flattery, the band is credited with developing the Americanized "Oi" movement, so proficiently created by our friends across the seas, you know "If the kids are united…" and that sort of stuff?

This is alright-can't comment much on their backgrounds but it's a safe bet they haven't changed much. There's nothing on here that'll either turn off listeners of a bygone Hard Core era nor will it raise many eyebrows for fans of the play it safe trendy warm climate sandy haired prognosticators…

File 'em in with the likes of The Bruisers, and The Business from ye olden days and more recently with Blanks 77, yep, they're in there and Those Unknown… Hell, early Therapy? with a raspy voice-"Wake Up!"

They're very rough around the edges attack and melodic motor skills and relatively calm demeanor (or minus Fuck this, fuck you and fuck the world!), I mean who's not ready to get up on their desk (or barstool) and start singing along with "Happy Happy Oi Oi…" these guys are from Jersey aren't they!

"Go Away" should earn 'em gold star treatment from fans who'll no doubt be less inclined to do as the album title says and rather raise a few glasses and stick around a while.
