Now, it may well be just human nature, but why is it every time somebody mentions sheep it automatically brings a smile to your face.

Just like the word sex. Infact if you say the two words sheep and sex together long enough like this sheep sex, sheep sex, sheep sex it ends up sounding like cheap sex and I'm all for that especially at my age.

Oh and by the way Geno Died is on Livestock Records, I kid you not, and that is were the jokes end.

Because Neglected Sheep are a fine band with their own distinctive brand of U.S. rock not to dissimilar to Soul Asylum or even Hootie and The Blowfish, with driving rhythms, excellent guitar work and hard hitting vocals.
This is an ideal album for the summer days ahead.
Go and get the bar-b-cue out, crank up the volume and drift away to songs like 'Annie Brewster', 'Bad Attitude''or how about the slightly harder edged 'Brown Mountain' or 'Flight' or even the jazz influenced feel my way or why not get your favourite girl and get all silly over the semi-acoustic ballad 'Why' with it's acoustic intro, first rate lead breaks.

Frankly , this is a first rate guitar based U.S. rock album, the songs are easy to get along with and the musicianship is first class especially the guitar work.
All in all a right little gem.

Ghostman On Third
NEGLECTED SHEEP

Band Members:

Vocalist - Matt Funderburk
Guitar - John Vargosko
Bass - Mike Scarlata
Drums - John Ehlers

The tracks are :
1. Velocity College Popster
2. Uanda
3. Time
4. Go Easy With Me
5. In No Mood
6. Yeah

Inspired by music from the hardcore circuit to pop rock, Neglected Sheep started out as a shoestring operation in 1994, including bassist Mike Scarlata and drummer John Ehlers. The boys moved on to attend Wingate college in Wingate, North Carolina, and several years later, they met up with guitarist John Vargosko.

Things moved along quite steadily, then Scarlata introduced the band to guitarist Robby Long. After several bookings, the band was officially named and a search for a front man had begun. They continued booking and performing instrumental shows, and then a few months later Kevin Harrison, longtime friend of both Ehlers and Scarlata, was asked to join the band.

Instant chemistry and energy was the best way to describe the band in its infancy. Writing quickly and almost effortlessly at times, the band began booking numerous shows in and around Charlotte, NC. After several gigs, they developed enough local fan support to begin work on their first demo tape.

Released in January 1995, Newfoundland, a four song EP, sold out its initial release and a second round almost immediately. In January 1996, thanks to Jamie Hoover at Washateria Studios in South Carolina, the band released their debut full-length CD, Geno Died. Barely four months after the release of their debut CD, the Sheep and guitarist Robby Long parted ways.

As a four piece, the band kept on working hard, especially in the areas of music and promotion. Before they knew it, Neglected Sheep had reviews from everywhere, and radio play in places they'd only joked about. Unfortunately in mid-June, Kevin Harrison had different plans.

Following a sold out farewell show at the Milestone in Charlotte that same month, he left the band to pursue other plans. Now, after two years of great publicity, a huge fan base, more shows than the band can play, and two successful selling releases, it is time for the Sheep to start over. Replacing Kevin Harrison is singer, Matt Funderburk.

The opening track is "Velocity College Popster" and sounds just the title suggests. A college pop/rock song, although at first I wasn't quite sure about he track, but it does tend to grow on you after several listens.

The next track is 'Uanda', is a very catchy pop/rock track with great vocals, carrying a lot of emotion. Theres also excellent guitar work.

The third track is 'Time', an exceelnt track, which has more of a blues tone to it. It's a fairly slow track and carries a lot of emotion. The guitar work is just excellent and puts a lot of atmosphere into the song.

The next track 'Go Easy On Me', is another catchy pop/rock tune.

'In No Mood', is another track which carries a lot of emotion, once again there's some excellent guitar work.

The final track is entitled 'Yeah', and starts off with some great guitar work. Once again theres quite abit of emotion to this track and some nice cahnges in direction, mood and tempo.

Well, i must admit, this album did take me a while to get into, but it is worth perservering as there are some excellent songs on it.
