Split Decision STEVE MORSE BAND |
|
From Rock hard near Metal sermons like Heightened Awareness through exercises in Fusion, Busy Bodies, on to gently acoustic guitar weeping, Clear Memories, nearly everything that is the STEVE MORSE BAND finds its way to its own little sweet spot making this disc yet another phenomenal example of Morses dexterity. As Morse explains in the liner notes he was of two minds while recording the material that would become this album and in the end couldnt really find a reason why material that on its surface seams so different couldnt be joined to create a complete work. In reality Morse has been doing this kind of thing for the last several years as a member of DEEP PURPLE maintaining that groups hard edge while striking off into completely new and previously unconsidered territory. This disc is both bold and beautiful and so much more than the standard instrumental guitar record. As always Morse, LaRue and Romaine deliver virtuoso performances that are virtually incapable of being reproduced by anyone else yet are still as inviting and open as the most basic Blues chugging. The only true decision to be made with this disc is when to stop playing it. Perhaps, by the next PURPLE record? Well see. The CD is released by Magna Carta. Magna Carta. 208 E. 51st St. #1820
