The Age of Asparagus

Mad Daddys

Goodness gracious can you feel the vibe, kids?

Whole lotta shakin' going round, down to the ground… a stylistic uprooting that makes ya wanna fire up the rod and cruise down the boulevard of broken dreams and relive the memories of yesterday… too young to remember?

Well give it about another eight years, that's about the time we'll be duckin' around the sixties era for another dab of greased lightnin' and moonlit parks by the seaside…

Hey Mad Daddys ain't yer daddy's kinda music son… but then again they might be.

The label's got designs on bringing "real" Rock & Roll back to the people… and the label fits perfectly for this N.J.-based crew of shady lookin' dudes doing their bebop boogie-woogie Elvis-wearing balls of fire, wave-ridin' free-wheelin' groove and plenty o' cool to go round!

There's trouble brewin' in the asparagus patch and these daddys know how to have fun after the kids go to bed… the tunes are loosely hung, throw back yer beer, kick your feet up and swing to the rockin' beat-around the clock and over again-"Daddy Needs A Momma," "Blonde On A Bum Trip," "Shake It Like Ya Mean It," and this one's one of those kinds that grabs ya like when you're at the party and everyone's doing their line dance thing and some liquored up goof grabs ya out yer seat, or some chunky lady feels compelled to pull ya into the fracas-but we're having fun right?

Well here's all those great moments thrown into one groovin' tune with a chorus that'll sell ya way back on the radio dial… say bout 1955 and hey this Rock & Roll thing is okay!

By the time ya realize you're trapped in this uni-directional time warp heading straight for your momma's high-school prom, delight in the wondrous sights and sounds of yesterday-can't escape it so just go with it-the tunes turn slightly evil near the end, beginning with "I'm Mad," and "I Gottcha" and the advent of recording studio is now well engrained in our senses… whew!

"The Age Of Asparagus," is fun… and its funny-check out Lana Turner swinging from the asparagus stalk while the mushroom cloud forms behind here… and Mad magazine's trademark lettering in the band name-yes, these guys know how to have fun and for about 70% of the time this is a fun record to groove to, the rest kinda gives ya the cramps…
