Finally, it's good instrumentation and technique. Quite a simple little list of things to catapult you to stardom, but very affective, who said that perfection had to be complicated? 'Strive' is a prime example of what I.m talking about. Basic riffs with a beefed up sound, powerful vocals for profound lyrics and a catchy theme. 'Scum', like 'Strive' is brliilaint, with some really great chord progressions leading into exciting new sections. The guitar intro is fantastic as is everything else about this track. 'Blind', is one of my favourite tracks on the album. It's raw and raucous. You can feel the power and energy that has been put into this song. The doubled up vocals that lead into the chorus are strange and the short guitar solo about two and a half minutes in is brilliant (unfortunately it's cut off in it's prime). 'Reconstruction', a lovely guitar strums away it's lonely chords of sorrow, until some bloddy huge distortion guitars explode onto the scene and blow it away! Some nice effects are used for various parts in the music 'Shallow Gains', this is phenomally good. It;s almost scary how addictive this track can be. The chord progressions are glazed with the sweetest honet, and the overdrive solos are as smooth as a babies bottom! The vocals are pretty good, but the instrumenatation steals the show on this one. 'Defense', not exactly the most memorable song in history, but it is saved again by some marvellous guitar solos. Apart from that, there isn't much to this space filler. 'Feel', is pretty good, but like 'Defense', it isn't one of those songs that you'll be humming all day. However, the rapid strumming of one of the guitars will have you listening in awe of such talent. 'Area 51', is obviously about the secret miliatry base in the Nevada desert, where it is rumoured that there are aliens and their technology being held within the Top Security site. Some nice guitar solos (again) are contained within this strange ode to the paranormal. '6413', a vague whisper. Thats all this track is. 'The Web', appears to be a bit of a shy dig at the internet and it's users. A bit ironic for a band who expect you to use their website? This is not one of their better attempts, but there was a cool fax machine sample as an intro! Track 11 is not listed, but we are told by a female voice to basically, stop trashing the planet. What a noble gesture! 'Reconstruction' is a very good album. I'll admit that there are the odd tracks that don't scream brilliance, but there are others that do.
