'Twenty' marks the release of Skynyrd's 20th album to date and who would have thought that this band originally formed in 1965 in Jacksonville, Florida as a high school trio named after their strict PE teacher Leonard Skinner, would go on to be responsible for some of the greatest moments in Rock history.

With their own special blend of metal mixed with a southern twang and good old fashioned boogie, Skynyrd have been wooing the record buying public for years. Who can forget classic's like 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Freebird', a song that went on to be a anthem for every generation of rock fans all over the world and who's 1976 double live album 'One More For The Road' has to rank as one of the best live recordings ever.

Lynyrd Skynyrd are indeed true legends and if ever the phrase " If it ain't broke don't fix it" applied to any band then it would have to be Skynyrd.

'Twenty' contains a further 12 slabs of pure southern style boogie that their legions of fans all over the world will simply drool over, and while other bands try to latch onto Skynyrd's style of music, 'Twenty' proves without a doubt that Skynyrd are still the master.

'Twenty' is bursting full of fine songs in true southern style. 'Bring It On' with it's wonderful guitar work and boogie style piano and foot tapping rhythm has a real bar room feel to it.

And with the clever use of acoustic guitar/slide guitar and almost gospel style vocals 'Voodoo Lake' has a real laid back southern feel to it, while the chorus of 'Home Is Where The Heart Is' will have you humming this tune like a madman for weeks to come.

But the star of the show in my eyes has to go to 'Blame It On A Sad Song', great vocals, atmospheric guitar, a song sung with real feel and emotion. Outstanding!!!

With 'Twenty' Lynyrd Skynyrd prove that even after all these years, Quality never goes out of fashion.

Let's face it, very few bands around today deserve the praise that's heaped upon them, let alone legends or superstars.

But one band who really do live up to their reputation are Southern Blues Rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd. Since their reformation back in 1987, Skynyrd have prevailed time and time again, the quality never goes out of fashion and "Edge Of Forever" is no different.

Twelve quality songs brandishing the unmistakable Skynyrd trademark of intricate guitar work, a tight as you like rhythm section all topped of with the whisky soaked vocals of Johnny Van Zant, belting out out songs of beer, bikes and life on the road.

Numbers like "Preacher Man", the title track "Edge Of Forever" or the ironic "Money Back Guarantee" are pure classic hard drivin' sweaty southern rock, while "Gone Fishin'", (love the title) is a classic thumping blues rock number.

"Edge Of Forever" also contains two fine ballads "Tomorrow's Goodbye" and "Rough Around The Edges" (aren't we all). Both find the acoustic guitar and piano to the fore, and are the type of songs that will have you reaching for your lighters on your first listen.

The whole album has a much more harder side to it than some of their previous outings, and this I feel has a lot to do with the lineup that Skynyrd now have, because apart from the familiar faces of Rossington, Van Zant, Wilkeson and Powell, for this album Skynyrd have recruited former Blackfoot guitarist Ricky Medlocke, guitarist Hughie Thommason from the Outlaws and former Damn Yankees drummer Michael Cartellone.

Cartellone's drumming and percussion work is naturally first class, but it'd the guitar work of Medlocke and Thomasson that gives "Edge Of Forever" it's real metal edge.

"Edge Of Forever" is without doubt Skynyrd's finest work since their heyday in the middle 70's and serves a s a timely reminder to those of you who may have written them off years ago
Highly Recommended!
