Some of the absolute greatest lyrics come from Europe… sure the overdone folklore-ridden text and mystical melodies get overdrawn way too often for anything remotely exciting to take place for months at a time, but I really like what these guys sound like. On the forefront, Love History is not new in the reinvention of Dark/Gothic music-this could easily have been the last Rotting Christ record under a new guise and none of you'd know the difference. The fact is "Anasazi" has a bold and vibrant sound that's the result of six players altogether (with plenty of studio talent added to the mix) and imaginative content and harmonically weaved song textures that criss-cross between light and dark, demonstrative and maniacal, enchanting and eerie all at once. Still again, nothing brand new but they've put on display a technical superior and mastery of ever-changing patterns that defy predictability and merge factors from the dawn of the musical renaissance with what we've slowly evolved into today. "Lost," lead track and CD-Rom bonus opens the door, closes it, and offers no answer why… just a well crafted harmonically built tune with deep lyrics-compelling and cold. "Angealism" is one of the best of the nine total here-rooted in a catchy melody, highly tonal in its dreadful beauty and choking guitar riffs made more effective with the time changes and wide ranging dynamics… "Korbel," sounds like a medieval folk song opened with a lushly orchestrated acoustic section, nearly Amorphis in many respects as does the rest of the vocal less song carry through, still acoustic, now synthesized very gently before the mightiness sets in bringing this one to a rousing close. "Anasazi" follows an earthy theme and carries a heightened sense of awareness and defined state of spirituality where listener and nature can become as one. The Czech-based Love History began its somewhat short history in the early nineties and grew to become quickly revered in the contemporary Metal scene with their fearsome power and atmospheric presence… they'll be one to watch for 2001.
