"Greatest & Latest"Love/Hate |
|
By the time this new Love/Hate comp hits the racks, their off-centered and presumably on again frontman Jizzy Pearl's new book "I've got more Crickets than Friends" should've already corrupted the minds of wannabe Hollywood teaser-types everywhere! Gotta love the first song here, "Boozer", a driving rhythmic piece that many of us of course will not relate to. but I'm headed toward the refrigerator anyway! Born at the end of the fabled 80's glam rock scene that had all but bled itself dry as it lay helpless in the gutter, Love/Hate's timing was off by about five years. Nevertheless they embodied the tortured soul mechanism in their music that would in some twisted means lead into a pre-grunge kind of sound only with far more humor and personality. They played it loud but they didn't play it clean! The unfettered vastness of the once fabled sunset strip was the breeding ground for this talented team of trash-rock vandals who several albums later still possess that urge to elbow you in the chops and get in your face. Think back to those timeless classics like "Blackout", "Wasted in America" and "Dope" all represented here along with the suddenness of "Fuel" and "Spinning Wheel". A handful of new tunes peacefully close out this otherwise convulsive scream-fest and soon you'll be finding ways to quickly eliminate that dark cloud that's loomed over your head during this recent time of supposed maturity! "The Greatest & Latest" embodies all that Love/Hate was and should ever be-nothing fancy, just a knee-jerk, balls out party band designed to summon the emotional wreck that's crouched down waiting to be released in us all!
