Lifeless being a one man solo project namely Marc Kieffer. Death metal has come a long way in the past ten years or so from the early days of it's incarnation, growling, snarling at the world and to be honest a lot of the early stuff was to put it frankly, not very good. Played loudly and the music lacking any real direction. But Death Metal has grown in strength since those early days and now finds itself very much the IN music of the genre. Infact, it's almost COOL to like Death Metal. Although the style and conent of the lyrics remain the same, the music has come of age, the songs are more structured with keyboards and programming adding atmosphere creating a classical/gothic feel. Which inturn adds a esotic, dark and twisted feel to the songs. Forward To Suffering is another fine example of all that I have said above. After the musical blitz of the opener 'Intro', in comes 'Mistress Storm' with it's wonderful keyboard work creates an almost erotic dreamy atmosphere that lasts right through the album. But it isn't just about keyboards and electronic gizzmos, there's some excellent guitar work on offer as well, especially on tracks such as 'In my Dream' and 'Depressive Truth' and coupled with some fine bass and drum work, this is a fine example of how Death Metal has grown over the years. Death Metal is no longer music to commit torture too, it's more refined, intelligent and more accessible than ever and Forward To Suffering is a fine example of this. Highly Recommended!!!
