Plus... .......and on the eighth day, God spent most of his 24 hours piecing together this tremendous 3 man band, and the rest of the time creating a unique surf-rock-cum-sugar-metal style for them to build their songs around. And lo, he sent them forth into the world filled with commercial pop and same old rock, and they played. "It is good" announced the holy Master of the Universe, as his band obliterated every other musician on the planet. "On second thought, they're blinking brilliant!", he shouted as he put on his matching Hoover's G-String baseball cap and T-Shirt. Okay, so thats probably not how the band formed, but it might as well have been. These guys really are that good! Out of around some 300 albums I have listened to, this would easily make the top 5. The songs are original and the lyrics make sense. The instrumentation is absolutely perfect, and the recording quality is top notch. The first track 'Head' is a song about amputating unnecessary body parts. An excellent introduction the album, and a good representation of all the music on this album. The next track is 'Sick Of Trying', a brilliant rock/pop song with attitude that uses all the tricks in the book to create a wicked sound. The third track is 'Insanity', a song about a dad who thinks he can fly and a lottery winning uncle who runs naked through a shopping mall. A fantastic reflection number. The next track 'Chinese Water Torture' is an instrumental that lasts about 2 minutes, but will be remembered for at least a week. 'Bakersfield', a remorseful ditty that could probably even make Vinnie Jones (English Hard-Nut footballer) cry! The sixth track is 'Megaphone', I was expecting this song to feature a megaphone in it somewhere, and I wasn't disappointed. This is an amazing song that features the same chord progressions as we've heard in loads of other stuff, but this is not a problem. The next track 'Long Live The Fleshtones' is an instrumental that sounds like it's exploded out of the 50's!. It boasts some great saxophone solo's and a smooth trumpet fanfare type bit! 'Hot Spot', this is my favourite track on the album, despite the fact that I haven't got a clue what it's about. However, the vocal harmonies are innovative and the guitar solo at the end isn't bad either. The ninth track is 'Three times Yesterday', another classic track, Starts off slow and smoochy, but soon accelerates and takes off big-rock style. The next track is 'Schlitz Malt Liquor Bull', this song deserves credit just for the title (That also happens to be the only lyrics in this number !) This one has to be heard to believe! 'Los Angeles', probably the weakest track on the album, but still unbelievably good (if that makes any sense) The solo's are good and the unnerving bass line in the verse is brilliant. Track twelve is 'Overrated', something this album definitely isn't. Another rock number with enough attitude to fill a rather large hole. Extra Tape... Plus... These are the bonus tracks (well, at least that's what I think they are) The first one is an instrumental with a typical blues-rock feel, that wil rock the socks off the best. The second is more difficult to describe, but it's about a girls really cool boyfriend and comes complete with a wipe-out style surf rock bass line. The third track is another remorseful number with some fine lyrics and ace instrumentation. The 4th and final track is a memorable ditty, mainly because of it's gritty feel and raucous guitar section. Oh, and the lead singer goes a bit psycho towards the end. Well, that's a brief rundown of all the tracks, but my opinions really do not do these songs any justice. It really does come as a shock that I hadn't head of Hoover's G-String sooner because these guys should be big!!! Jeff, Jim and Kelly have come up with a stonker of an album.
