Perseverance HATEBREED |

Hatebreed are: Jamey Jasta
- Vocals Tracklisting: When extreme times call for extreme music, extreme music calls for Hatebreed. Yes, the same Hatebreed that turned OZZfest on end in the summer of 2001, their side steg performances inspiring mosh pits that consumed thousands of fans, their music bleeding the blitzreig of hardcore with the metallic thunder of extreme metal, and thier message opting for the profound, rather than the profane. Hatebreed formed some 7 years ago, when the hardcore scene in Connecticut was at an all time low. Their first tour consitse dof performances in garages, backyards and an infrequent veteran's hall. They sold their demo's, 45's and T-Shirts from the back of the car and hung photocopied postars to mark their territory. It was a do or die work ethic, and Hatebreed did it themselves and people started to notice. By the end of 1996, they were the top selling band for indie distributor Victory Records, and with the release of their full length debut 'Satisfaction Is The Death of Desire' in 1977, they were a narquee hardcore draw in the Northeast. Hatebreed then toured with the likes of Earth Crisis, Agnostic Front, entombed, Solufly, Motorhead, and Danzig and paved their molten path from underground icons, to leaders of the Metal-core movement. Hatebreed's vision has come to fruition with the release of 'Perseverance' in April 2002. This Universal Records release marks the major label debut for the Nutmeg state's premier extreme band. 'Perseverance' comes from driving from show to show with barely enough money in the till to fill the gas tank. And when you can fill the tank, theres no telling if the car will even make it to the next stop. " We were in the middle of Texas, our van broke down, and nine of us had to ride in the back of a pickup truck from El Paso to austin, because if we missed one more show we'd be thrown off the tour" recalls Jasta of Hatebreed's tour with Soulfly. "I wanted the lyrics to reflect that, the rdive that takes something from nothing when it is your dream. Even if you are a cook and want to be a four star chef, we are an example of how hard work and persevarnce could turn into something". This has to be one of the heaviest albums, I've had the pleasure of listening too in a while. This is indeed a fearsome disc, perhaps a touch repetitive in places, but none the less a damn fine piece of work, that'll have the competition running for cover. To give you some sort of idea what to expect, just think crushing, crunching riffs, complemented by a double bass drum that's just relentless and to top it off, the acidic hate fuelled vocals. When theses guys lock together with militaristic precision they become one fire-breathing entity, cloaked in a shield of sound that is so sense you could break your teeth chewing it. With each track weighing in at well under 3 1/2 minutes and a total running time of around 38 minutes, this is an absolute hardcore must for all those who listen to the likes of Pro-Pain and The Crumbsuckers. 'Perseverance' begins as it means to carry on. #Proven' explodes from the speakers like a ullet from a .357 magnum. The monstrous title track with it's crushing riffs is quite a catchy little number and perhaps my favourite of the 16 on offer. Other highlights on this disc include the excellent 'Unloved', 'I Will Be Heard' & 'Final Prayer'. More please!!! All in all, in my opinion, theres not one didgy track on this album, my only complaint being it's nowhere near long enough. I just can't stop listening to this. The sooner these guys get their arses over to this country (UK) and do some gigs the better as far as I'm concerned. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who would care to listen to my inane ramblings. Go and buy this now or else! You have been warned!!
