Grey Area
GREY AREA

My first impression of GreyArea was 'Oh no - just another punk band'. The first song was typical of the same old 'punk' - the band shouting "One, Two, Three, Four" during the intro and the typical punky drum beat (cymbals and not much else).

However, my opinion was totally reversed from the second song onwards. The whole of the rest of the CD was as varied as it could be without being controversial, but constantly had 'punk' overtones which gave the listener something to grasp to throughout.

The thing that takes this CD away from the stereo-typical punk genre was what made it a really good listen. These include short silences in songs where needed, drums beats that change throughout the songs, and well written lyrics. The lyrics themselves obviously come from personal experiences of the band members, and some of them made me chuckle ('Insomnia' - "...even the sheep have gone to sleep") and some of them even apply to various stages in my own life (When I were a lad... blah blah drone drone.....). The only down side to the whole CD was that the singer did sometimes sound like he had a blocked up nose (but that's punk isn't it??!!??)

Overall I must say that I really did enjoy listening to this CD even though it is greatly different to my normal music tastes and I'd recommend anyone to give it a listen as it definitely doesn't fit in to the typical 'punk' that's been done so many times before.
