Mind Over Matter
GALLEON

Galleon are :
Göran Fors : Bass, vocals and Keyboards
Dan Fors : Drums and percussion
Ulf Pettersson : Keyboards
Mikael Värn : Guitars

The tracks are :
1. Art Gallery (14:14)
2. Operating Manual (10:44)
3. Starborn (8:02)
4. House Of Plenty (12:30)
5. The Wanderer (21:19)

The opening track is 'Art Gallery', this track starts off with some atmospheric sounds before some very nice melodic keyboards come in. The vocals come in soon after and Göran's vocals fit in perfectly with this style of music. There's a nice combination between guitars and keyboards and as you would expect from a track that lasts over 14 minutes there are many changes in direction, mood and tempo. There are also some very nice guitar and keyboard instrumentals throughout.

The next track is 'Operating Manual', you know when you buy an item such as a video recorder, take it home, unpack it and read the instructions (well, some of us do), plug in and start to use it?
Well, this track is all about that. Never thought a band would write a song about it, but Galleon have and it's all set to some nice melodic, beautiful music.

The third track 'Starborn', this is a nice track that to me has a Scottish feel to it. The keyboards have a similar sound to the bagpipes. This track has a lovely melody and is mainly a keyboard-orientated track.

The next track 'House Of Plenty', starts off with a nice keyboard instrumental, and I have to say that there is a Genesis influence here. This theme carries on even when the vocals start, or at least for the first verse. Then there's a change in direction, the guitar work becomes more intricate with some really nice bass lines. Again this is another fairly long track at 121/2 minutes, although saying that there are no short tracks on this album. Once again there are some very nice keyboards and guitar instrumental breaks throughout.

The final track is 'The Wanderer' a 21 minute plus epic, starting with some intricate acoustic guitar and soft, but emotional vocals. After a few minutes, the same guitar themes carries on, but in comes some beautiful keyboards as well and then this builds up and then changes direction when the vocals come back in. The music is soft, warm and enticing and draws you into the world of this lonely wanderer.
Another change in direction, a bass note plays away while some nice keyboards swirl around with occassional flashes of some fine guitar work playing away. Now there some more soft, emotional vocals, a hint of some piano and then a change in tempo as the track takes on a slightly more upbeat role, the drumming, percussion and bass work is just superb throughout this track.
It's time now to slow the whole thing down and become once again a lot more emotional, intricate guitar work, soft mellow keys. Then another change in direction, some very nice multi keyboard work, back to more emotional vocals and nice keyboard, guitar work until the track gradually faded away.

Brilliant!
Absolutely Brilliant!!
Boy, what a great album this is, melodic, emotional, fine musicianship, great songwriting.
What more can I say other than if you like progressive rock, early Genesis then get this album.
Highly Recommended!!!

Galleon's fifth CD offers the same melodic neo-progressive rock that you are used to hear from Galleon.

They have been around for quiet a long time now and have become an institution in the Swedish prog rock scene.

The band was started back in 1985 in the neo-progressive wave. Their music is competent and have reminiscences to bands such as Genesis, Manticore, Marillion, Pendragon and Rush.

When you buy a Galleon CD you know what you get, and that is both of good and bad.

All in all, this album is a good album in the genre melodic neo-progressive rock. So if you're into this kind of music, Galleon may be worth checking out.

Beyond Dreams

Galleon:

Göran Fors: Vocals, Bass & Bass Pedals
Ulf Petterson: Keyboards
Sven Larsson: Guitars
Dan Fors: Drums

Tracklist:

1. Before The Sunrise (9.09)
2. Let Us Be Amazed (8.58)
3. The Ballad Of Fortune (7.55)
4. The Dream (3.09)
5. Dreamland (8.19)
6. Parasite (8.07)
7. Sailing On By (6.25)

Swedish band Galleon is on the same record label as Cross.

Galleon was founded as Aragon back in 1985, and they have released six albums up to date.

Their music could be described as melodic keyboard-based neo-progressive rock with reminiscences to Genesis, Marillion, Rush and IQ. Galleon compositions are top-quality, but I can't really get used to the vocals.

I found them somewhat weak, but original at the same time. Galleon has become better for every album.

And although this album doesn't differ that much from their previous album "Mind Over Matter", it's recommended to lovers of neo-progressive rock and Rush.
