Reactionary

Face to Face

So who should I thank for this, the band, or the millions of fans worldwide who cast the votes for what would appear on the disc?

Now how's that for progress-a band, with an evidently broad following, decides to undercut the A&R "sub" standards, and go totally by the way of modern technology to team with MP3 and collaborate with their public?

A pretty daring feat, which can also be said for how "Reactionary" turned out. Opting for more of the live-in-your-face punk approach this time, side-stepping where "Ignorance is Bliss" left off last year, the results make for a more interesting record that's essentially fun to listen to.

"Disappointed" right off begins things with a forward thrust, revealing loud bursts of rhythmic noise, breaking away to a catchy chorus and leads the way for the others to follow-"Out of Focus," "What's in a Name?"

I hear something of a crossbreed of early Social Distortion and recent Suicide Machines. "Hollow" is a high point here and really the first one that jumps out as an obvious single, pop-like, harmoniously presented yet full of fervor.

"Think for Yourself" follows but not closely in the same footsteps, but rather sticks an extended foot in the way of it's smooth-stepping predecessors-tripped up, hyper and effectively dismissive to those in the know… the stuff So Cal. landslides are born of for sure!

The fifth album for the ten year old punk rock vets throws back a spitball in the direction of trend and tradition, combining old-school candor with an upbeat quality and new vision that'll see Face to Face quickly put a puzzled look on the rest of those formulaic rock star types!
