Diet for a New America

58

What started as a running joke has turned into something serious… the new side-project from Crue bassist Nikki Sixx and his outfit 58. Shedding off the excess heaviness of his present endeavors with the Motley men, and as well trimming and toning perceptibility and expectation, this is not like what you would expect to hear-and thankfully this was done in and around his schedule with the Crue-and not with them!

Getting a strong underground buzz and taking full advantage of new advancements in multi-media self-promotion, "Diet for a New America" appears courtesy of Sixx' own Americoma Records and is not expected to tour for this new disc.

The band assembled has earned a solid reputation individually, and features Steve Gibb, son of Bee Gee Barry doing whatever it is he does here… with all of the "sights" and sounds going on here, it's doubtful each of the four contributors take the responsibility of doing only one thing.

Combining ruff mixes with hip-hop beats, shifty industrial moments and yesterday's Bowie-like rock and glam forte, "Diet for a New America" is a little out there though focused.

A winding range of styles come into play on this evasive eleven track offering that stands well with where we're at today, without smothering itself in seriousness and one can only imagine how much fun they must have had during the pre-production process and beyond-this does not appear to be reflected in the front cover however… so what's next, "The Vegetative Effects of a Crippled Nation?"

It won't set any commercial radio fires and it's doubtful it was looked upon to do so… though "Shopping Cart Jesus" or "Song to Slit Your Wrists By" have that potentially satisfying quality should the need arise.
