Progressive DisDURPance Vol .2 is a compilation album released
by
Die Ultimate Reviews Page http://www.durp.com
and features underground progrock & progmetal bands.

The opening track is an excellent instrumental opener to this CD and
is a track called 'Heroes' by progressive rock band Flamborough
Head. This track starts off with some nice keyboards and then
drums and bass are added. Then finally the guitars are added with
quite a heavy riff to it. The interaction between keyboards and guitar
is just superb. This track also features a really good beat to it
with a strong melody and the keyboards and guitar throughout are just
superb. There are also some nice changes in direction, mood and tempo.
Flamborough Head originate from the Netherlands and released
their album in 1998 entitled 'Unspoken Whisper', from which
this track was taken and appears courtesy of Cyclops Records.

The next track is entitled 'Trip' and is from Austrian band
Mayfair. Mayfair was founded in 1989 and is now one
of the most significant bands in Austria. Mayfair have appeared
at several festivals and have headlined tours as well. Mayfair
recorded their concept album 'Fastest Trip To Cybertown'. Their
music can be described as Space Rock, influenced by the psychedlic
70's, combined with modern touch 'n' feel (sound and fx).
This is quite an unusual track, the music is uptempo electronic, with
distorted vocals that remind me somewhat of Public Image Limited (PIL).
But the track has a lot of atmosphere and grows on you after several
listens.

The third track 'In My Sight/Take My Time' is from German band
Dionysos. Dionysos are influenced by bands such as Dream
Theater, Simple Minds, Living Colour and Marillion, founded in 1993,
they recorded their first demo 'Light Without Heat' from which
this track is taken in 1997/8.
This track starts off fairly quietly with some nice keyboards which
is followed later with some intricate guitar work. The vocals are
at time fairly powerful. This is a track with a strong melody with
some excellent keyboards, sometimes showing an oriental flavour and
also features a stunning guitar solo.
The next track is from Pittsburgh progressive rock/metal band Third
Voice. Third Voice are currently a two man band and have
released a demo CD entitled 'Reflections'.
'From Where You Stand' is a powerful track fromThird Voice,
which consists of Jeff Kearney on Vocals and Jason Pirone playing
everything else. This is quite a heavy track, which still retains
a good melodic quality. The vocal delivery is also very powerful and
the guitar work is simply breathtaking.

'Perfect Illusion' is from another band from Germany called
Blank. Blank are one of Germany's most promising underground
prog bands. Blank released their demo 'Surreal' in 1998
This is a nice melodic track featuring some fine guitar work. The
vocals though remind me a little of Mark Almond (Soft Cell). The middle
section of the track is slightly heavier and the vocals are distorted.

The sixth track is entitled 'Blinded' and is played by Swedish
band Twin Age. Two Swedish guys from a Dream Theater cover
band decided to change their style from Progmetal to Progrock and
in 1995 Twin Age was born. 'Blinded' is taken from a
demo CD recorded by Twin Age called 'Lialim High' in
1997.
This track features a nice mixture of electric and acoustic guitars,
coming over fairly mellow, but with vocals that are full of emotion.
'Blinded' reminds me quite a bit of Steve Hackett and Genesis
and has a very nice guitar solo.

The next track 'Followed By A Memory' is performed by Moonlit,
who hail from Germany. Moonlit recorded their first demo in
1994, after playing cover versions od Queensryche, Metallica and Iron
Maiden and then started to write their own material, a mixture of
progressive metal and gothic rock. Their new album 'Elements'
combines progmetal, gothic, with some classic arrangements and atmospheric
folk.
This track starts off with some nice guitar and then goes into quite
a heavy riff. The vocals delivery comes over being quite dark, and
in places is fairly powerful. The guitar then becomes more atmospheric
and intricate with the occassional heavy riff coming in. There's also
an excellent guitar solo midway through.

'Wanna Know' is from WW, a band from Estonia who practise untypical
music in an area where only pop music has a chance.
This track reminds me a bit of 'Kashmir' - Led Zeppelin, it's got
a similar kind of rhythm and the I just like the way it constantly
builds up throughout the track.

The ninth track is entitled 'Life Will Live On' and is from
Swiss band Moondaze.
This track starts off with a very strong drumbeat, to which bass is
added and then guitar. The guitar work is a mixture of heavy riffs
and fine intricate work. The vocals are extremely good, powerful,
atmospheric and emotional. The music is fairly melodic, dramatic and
atmospheric with some superb guitar work.
