DONNAMATRIX |
| Donnamatrix are : Donna Rapp on Vocals Steev Wiggs on Guitars Rich Razzi on Keyboards/Samples Earl Rapp on Drums/Percussion Tom Slusar on Bass The tracks are : 1. Livid 2. Eternity 3. Donnamatrix 4. Cyberia 5. Prelude To A Camera 6. Underwater Something 7. Can You Feel It? The opening track is 'Livid', this starts with some atmospheric sounds that gradually build up with the use of keyboards, bass drums and percussion into the main theme, which has a Hawkwind feel to it. Theres a atmospheric vocal delivery from Donna which is followed by some more atmospheric keyboards and guitar. At this point theres a very nice strong drum sound and some great guitar work, which is followed by a short, but wierd sounding guitar. The next track is 'Eternity', this track is fairly laid back with quite a slow tempo, theres some excellent guitar work and some nice keyboards in the background. this track reminds me a little of early Jefferson Airplane and Fleetwood Mac. The third track is 'Donnamatrix', this track has a strong drum sound with some nice bass, atmospheric keyboards and guitar, quite hypnotic in a way. The vocals are more of a spacey murmur, which is quite nice and effective (reminds me a bit of the film - A Space odyssey : 2001). Later theres some heavier guitar. The next track 'Cyberia', starts with some atmospheric keyboard sounds and percussion which builds up to a nice rhythm with some nice guitar, drums, bass and keyboards, but this is merely a backdrop for some stunning guitar work. After a while this gradually fades to more atmospheric sounds and percussion, then in comes some nice bass and then the song returns back to the rhythm used at the start of the track and then this fades to end the track with atmospheric sounds. 'Prelude To A Camera', after a couple of minutes of atmospheric sounds and percussion theres a short burst of lead guitar which then fades away into the distance. The sixth track is 'Underwater Something', this track starts with the sound of moving water which fades into spacey keyboard sounds. Theres also some nice paino and guitar. The final track is 'Can You Feel It?', this has more of a jazz feel to it. It starts with a jazzy rhythm and this actually continues throughout the track while in the background theres some fripp style guitar being played. Theres some nice vocals from Donna who also sings more in a jazz style except for a bit when it's more atmospheric. Well, this is one of those albums that grows on you the more you listen to it. It's a little different, so you have to be open minded and be prepared to listen. Heres a band who are not afraid to experiment and are trying to be more creative than the norm, if you like space rock, psychedelic music then give this a listen. It get my votes!!
