Before The Storm i) the ocean ii) the storm iii) eden Unfolded Like Staircase starts with the excellent 'Canto IV (Limbo)', this track is dark and moody with many changes in tempo, mood and direction. Matthew has quite a unique voice that really suits this type of music. Within the track I can hear a few influences, King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator, to name a few, but don't let that fool you, this is Discipline's music and this is a band who are going to be around for a long time if they can produce tracks like this. 'Crutches including i) the carrot ii) the silent mirror iii) down the hatch iv) crutches', another excellent track, on the liner notes Matthew thanks JEL of Anekdoken for introducing him to Peter Hammill and VDGG and on this track you can hear the influence Peter has given to Matthew on the vocal parts. Although Matthew has not quite got the same power in his voice as what Peter gets over. But , as I have already said this is an excellent track, the vocals are great, some excellent guitar work and there are nice changes in direction, tempo and mood within the track 'Into The Dream including i )descent ii) chock full o'guts iii) drawn and quartered iv) cleaning v) stealing the sky vi) sum music vii) turtles all the way down' a track lasting some 22minutes and I would say has a slight early Genesis feel to it, the vocals are superb, there's some great keyboards and outstanding guitar and there's also a good drum sound on this track. There are some nice changes in direction, tempo and mood. 'Before The Storm including i) the ocean ii) the storm iii) eden' another excellent track starting with some nice keyboards and Matthew singing softly followed by some great guitar and some VDGG style keyboards and sax. Again there are lots of changes in direction, mood and tempo. This is an outstanding album and one I would highly recommend to any progrock fans especially fans of early Genesis, VDGG, and King Crimson. I feel that Discipline could become one of todays great progrock bands if they continue to releases albums of this quality. Even though I have said that there a quite a few influences on this album, that is taking nothing away from what Discipline have achieved, there is still quite a bit of originality on this album. There are only four tracks on this album, but they are all lengthy tracks and the total running time is around 65 minutes. All I can say is if you haven't already bought this album, BUY IT NOW!!!
