"In The Face Of The Enemy" Disarray |
|
It's hard not to pull for these guys after hearing their music, reading their lyrics, and catching wind of some quick quips by frontman "Freebird-ing" revivalist Chuck Bonnet. Disarray made inroads with their previous "Less Than Respect" release with their powerful blend of Hardcore and traditional Thrash Metal and the pain's only more severe this go round. Riding a lyrical roller coaster of more lows than highs, "In The Face Of The Enemy" pulls no punches-on the opening "Depths Of The Wreckage," they close with one word says all "Hate." Not to mention the 144 or so other ones spewed out to arrive there So we're not dealing well with anger management from the Tennessean trio, a wagon train of meaty riffs for every sentence long lyrical beef, they chug ahead at a generally safe speed, occasional hook and enough Propain-filled pressure to blow the powers that be clear across the world they've helped befall. So you take a demo-era Armored Saint style abandon, reckless take no shit attitude, a need fulfilling knack for power chording playability, an aiding and abetting Oderus Urungus of GWAR infamy and an oddball acoustic closing track and you're left totally alone in a world of confusion? Not exactly, though the closing track "Life Is Gone" is far side, they show a tuneful nature within the aggression that could yield better future results to songs that are steady enough for the moment but won't suffer for lack of catchiness and melody.
