| The tracks are
: I. II. Luna III. Sunseth Autumn The Serpent Scarlet IV. Eve V. Aura Winterveil (with regards to the tracklisting, your guess is as good as mine, this was printed on the CD, no other info was sent) Hot on the heels of 1997's impressive debut 'Amber', the Austrian trio return with their second full length album 'Fragments'. 'Fragments' reminds me a lot of Amorphis 'Tales From A Thousand Lakes', in fact lovers of this album will be well at home with 'Fragments'. This style of sophisticated metal leans very much on the gothic end of the spectrum and therefore relies on the performance of the keyboards and programming as it's main source of inspiration and in this department 'Dawn Of Dreams' doesn't disappoint. The keyboard work is first class and the programming in some cases is breathtaking making ordinary songs into something special, while casting an almost dreamy effect over the whole proceedings. Although the keyboards play an important part in 'Fragments' there's some superb guitar work to be found as well, especially on the latter parts of 'Fragments' (unfortunately, I only received this CD in a plastic sleeve with no sleeve, no info whatsoever and although the CD has 5 tracks printed on it, when you put it in you CD player 10 tracks register making track identification difficult.) 'Fragments' challenges the listener to look beyond the music and lets your imagination run wild. The first part reminds me of bleak open spaces with campfires buring on the horizon, while as the album progresses a more dream space like pattern forms in my mind. I could swear that while this was in full flow I could see the whole solar system in my living room. Although 'Fragments' is hardly a classic, Dawn Of Dreams show that they have the style and creative skills needed to one day produce a masterpiece and bearing this in mind, that this is only their second full length outing that is praise indeed. In the meantime 'Fragments ' will do just fine. Released by Candlelight, P.O. Box 328, High Wycombe, HP15 6TY. UK c/o Plastic Head Distribution Ltd.
