Orphan

Darwin's Waiting Room

Rock/Rap hybrid Darwin's Waiting Room launches their debut assault, "Orphan," and while you're waiting to exhale at the thought of something new and completely different… facetiousness aside, they're not half bad.

Such a fusion, cornered, clichéd, but totally cool, which takes place on "Orphan" comes off more fresh and vibrant than the hundreds of should-be also-rans that've been taunting the airwaves and music video these last million years or so.

While I'll stop short of selling "Orphan" as the record that sets the standard, tunes like the opener "Fell So Stupid," "Live For The Moment," and "In To The Dark" show real potential, featuring a well-timed vocal tradeoff between an emcee and actual vocalist over some cool rhythms, trippy thump and melodic groove-it'd be easy to right away scream Papa Roach, Chili Peppers and the like but narrowing the scope, think more in terms of those other bands a couple years back that had the makings but evidently not the support-Cold, Fat, and on the heavier front P.O.D., Linkin' Park, traces of Sevendust-"Another Way," "Spent."

A nice mix that at one moment goes down easy, the next leaves ya scoured and seething, tastefully done and without the back da fuck up attitude comin' at ya at every angle!
